A woman has died and a 26-year-old man has been seriously injured after a vehicle drove into a bus shelter in Pickering.

Durham police were called to Kingston Road between Brock and Valleyfarm roads for reports of a collision.

There were two people in the bus shelter when a vehicle, traveling westbound on Kingston Road drove into the shelter.

Both victims were taken to hospital but the woman died of her injuries while on the way to the trauma centre. The man suffered serious injuries.

ORNGE attended the scene but did not transport anyone.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police.
