An 80-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle in Scarborough.
Toronto police were called to Kingston Road and Midland Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a collision.
The 81-year-old driver originally left the scene but later returned.
The pedestrian was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, but later died of her injuries.
Police say preliminary information indicates the woman had slipped and fallen on the ground and then was struck by a truck that was backing out of a driveway.
The driver and the pedestrian were not known to each other.
An investigation is still ongoing.
“I’d like to remind drivers to aware of their surroundings at all times to prevent these type of collisions, in particular on a night like tonight when we have very heavy freezing rain and very slick road conditions,” said Duty Insp. Jeff Allington.
“Whether you are driving, riding or walking, be aware of those slippery conditions, be aware of where you step and be aware of where you drive.”
