A woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Brampton.

Police in Peel Region say they were called to the intersection of Queen Street West and McLaughlin Road just before 6 p.m. for reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a transport truck.

Police say the woman, believed to be in her late 20s, suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the truck continued on after striking the pedestrian before stopping near Bufford Drive, south of Queen Street.

Police are expected to provide an update on the investigation later this evening
