Severe thunderstorm warning ends for Toronto and surrounding areas

Federal meteorologists issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Toronto and most of southern Ontario on Saturday.

Environment Canada said a weather system was predicted to bring heavy rainfall and quarter-sized hail to some areas as far east as Oshawa and as far west as Kitchener.

Areas north of the GTA, including Lindsay, Newmarket, and Georgina were also under a severe thunderstorm warning.

It ended just before 7:30 p.m.

Thousands of power outages were reported across the province.

The weather on Sunday is expected to be mostly sunny, with clouds returning by the evening with rain showers in cottage country. Those showers will continue into Monday morning with isolated thunder storms.
