Special weather statement ends for Toronto

A special weather statement warning of locally heavy rainfall across Toronto and the GTA has ended.

Environment Canada said lake effect showers off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay had the potential to bring upwards of 20 to 40 millimetres of rain throughout the afternoon and evening.

“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” the national weather service advisory said. “Avoid low-lying areas. Watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”

Hamilton and parts of cottage country are still under similar warnings, which stretch as far west as London, up to Bracebridge and Haliburton, and down to Oshawa in the east.

The rain, with the potential for thunderstorms, is expected to taper off this evening before resuming once again on Monday.
