Toronto Hydro is reporting over 35,000 people are without power, down from 65,000 at the height of the storm, caused by severe weather.

“Since the peak of the event, we have restored power to approximately 30,000 customers, with restoration efforts continuing throughout the night and into tomorrow,” said the utility.

They added crews are out assessing the damage, but given the number of outages across the city, the information displayed on their outage map is based on preliminary assessments and will be “refined as crews arrive on site, assess damage and determine the repairs required.”

“We appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding as crews continue working to safely restore power to everyone affected,” read their update.

Power outages have also been reported at the Eaton Centre and on TMU’s campus.

The City of Toronto’s Emergency Operations Centre was activated earlier Wednesday morning and Mayor Olivia Chow says city crews are already out responding to some of the effects of the storm including downed wires and trees.

Toronto police say emergency services have received several reports of wires down and trees fallen in several locations across the city. EMS are urging people to be patient.

They urge drivers to slow down and use caution.

The CNE closed their grounds at 7 p.m. while concerts at the Bandshell have also been cancelled.

The TLC and Salt-N-Peppa concert at the RBC amphitheatre set to held tonight has been cancelled and rescheduled for Sept. 11.

Several delays and cancellations have been reported at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Those travelling Wednesday evening are encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
