A Canadian comedian is generating buzz with his new documentary on Silicon Valley fraudster Elizabeth Holmes.



Nathan Fielder’s “You Can See Everything” had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado over the weekend, quickly becoming one of the season’s most talked-about films.

Holmes was convicted of fraud in 2022, after her startup Theranos was shown to have exaggerated the results it could garner from a device it developed to detect hundreds of diseases with just a few drops of blood.

About a month before she went to jail in 2023, Fielder moved into her Southern California rental home and started chronicling her preparations for incarceration in Texas.

Media outlets reported fans waited hours for a chance to attend the Telluride screening and those who made it inside were urged not to divulge some of the movie’s juiciest twists. However, early reviews of the film say Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim received unprecedented access to Holmes and her partner Billy Evans.

Vancouver-bred Fielder is best known for blending comedy and reality in projects that blur the lines between truth and fiction.

His docu-comedy TV series “The Rehearsal” explores how far people will go to reduce the unpredictability of their lives. With the help of actors and construction crews, he directs elaborately staged rehearsals meant to help people prepare for big life moments.

He got his start on CBC’s “This Hour Has 22 Minutes,” where he starred in segments called Nathan on Your Side. In them, Fielder took on the role of an absurdist TV reporter offering consumers advice around buying products such as winter tires, or interviewing kids about holiday wish lists.

Fielder is not the first to delve into the Holmes story.

Theranos’ unravelling was also explored in “The Dropout,” a TV series starring Amanda Seyfried; “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley,” a documentary from Alex Gibney; and “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup,” a novel from investigative journalist John Carreyrou.

However, a short trailer distributor A24 released in tandem with the Telluride screening revealed Fielder’s take on the failed entrepreneur may be the most intense yet. It’s set for release in October.

The teaser features a close-up of Holmes and Fielder staring intently at one another while Holmes asserts that she’s being truthful. She says, “Why would I deceive you? There’s no — there’s no reason for me to do that.”

Fielder replies, “You’re being real right now?”

Holmes, still not breaking her gaze, says, “I am always being real,” before the camera pans out, showing her baby bouncing in a seat behind her.
