Two people in their 70s who were believed to have been married have died in a shooting in Scarborough Monday afternoon.

Toronto police were called to Warden and St. Clair Avenue East just after 12:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

The victims, a man and woman in their 70s, were found with gunshot wounds and pronounced dead on the scene.

The shooting occured outside of Providence Healthcare on St. Clair Avenue East. A back area near the parking lot was been taped off by police.

Police say the victims are believed to have been a married couple and the woman was a patient at Providence at the time of the shooting. Their identities have not been released as police are still working to identify next-of-kin.

A firearm was recovered at the scene. Toronto police say no arrests have been made and no suspects are outstanding. There is no risk to public safety.

The homicide team has taken over the investigation.

When asked if this incident was a murder-suicide, Duty Senior Officer Scott Shutt said he could not answer that as it’s still an ongoing investigation.
